So You Want to be a Chiropractor in NYC

What's it like being a Chiropractor in NYC?

chiropractor in nyc treats back and joint pain with chiropractic and spinal decompression | Kinesio taping practitioner and provider in ManhattanHaving been a Chiropractor in NYC for 20 years now, I've been getting from a recurring question from patients, and non-patients for a while. People keep asking me what it's like being a chiropractor in New York. I thought it was time I address this fairly straightforward question. To say the least, it is definitely exciting. Its also keeping me very busy.  Working in New York City is can be extremely difficult, mostly due to the fact that there is a lot of competition. Competition is fierce in Manhattan, and even more so in SoHo. Not only do we have to provide excellent clinical results to our patients, we also have to stay on top of the latest trends in chiropractic, physical therapy and pain management. We also have to work on getting media exposure.

Whether it's optimizing your website or putting out well written content, you always have to be creating some sort of product or media. There is always work and no shortage of work all of which is enjoyable, but it is nevertheless a lot of work. As far as the clinical setting goes,  you have to be at the best. New Yorkers expect the best kind of treatment and results. If you take restaurants for example, they come up and go out of business constantly, and only the best survive. Chiropractic or with anything else in New York City the general rule is that best survive.

chiropractor in nyc providing active release technique and manual massage therapy for muscle strains and injuries | crossfit injury doctorI've been in practice in New York City for 20 years and it's been non-stop excitement, and one of the things that keeps it exciting is that it’s always changing. Change is what keeps you fresh and always learning. At my SoHo practice we're always learning new techniques, always looking at new challenges, with patients that come in from all over the world. Many people feel that New York City is the center of the universe, and people come in from all the world seeking out the best and brightest. That high level competition is one of the unique aspects of being a chiropractor in New York City. This ever evolving atmosphere is what drew me to practice in my hometown.

The day-to-day practice, after 20 years, is still exciting with a lot of things going on. Its like being a chef with a lot of different fires burning. You will always have to maintain a certain level of care. Being a chiropractor is not a nine-to-five job, don't expect us to show up have a paycheck and leave. Being a chiropractor, especially in Manhattan, is like being an entrepreneur. I find that patients are not going to be knocking down your door, you have to go and find them. You have to provide people value beyond a simple chiropractic adjustment. If you're expecting a cushy easy high paying job, then don't become a chiropractor. You should become a chiropractor if you are looking to help patients. You must be willing to put the hours in, and if you are hardworking and you genuinely care about people, you will find success as a chiropractor.

doctor of chiropractic steven shoshany is a SoHo chiropractor treating back pain and neck pain using spinal decompression utilizing the drx9000 decompression suiteThe chiropractic market in  New York is super competitive, you can't just have a website anymore you have to be willing to put a lot of attention and time in to social media. You will also have to find someone to help, or run your content creation for you, if you are unable to do it yourself. Aside from facebook, Google, Instagram and twitter,  you have to have consistent patient outreach and communication. It's never ending and it is a lot of work, but what's great about it is you're Your own boss.  Of course when you’re running the show, as things go well, it all goes well. But when it's going bad it's all on you. You are in charge, but also liable at all times. That’s what I love about it, I don't have to blame anybody it's all on me. If this concept scares you, maybe think about doing something else. If all you want is to be able to be the master of your destiny, chiropractic is one of those professions that give you that ability.

Chiropractic is definitely way more accepted today. I know Chiropractic is an integral part of not only helping patients stay healthy, but help them feel better. The future is chiropractic as an integral part of health and wellness. I know there's at-least one at Google and I know there is one at Facebook. When people are well taken care of, treated, and in less pain, they don't need to go to the doctor. Chiropractic Care in the corporate environment is where I see the future going. More companies will employ the on-site services of chiropractors. And it will be for the better.
